Rick MacDonald: I always wanted to charter in the Virgin Islands but it never worked out. I had planned a couple of trips but when it came time to front the money the people I was going with backed out. We ended up on a cruise ship instead. On one of these cruises I did get to drive an America Cup boat in St Martens. That was a kick and 1/2. I look forward to seeing the picture of your all girl crew holding my book. All girl crew - Rick, you must live right!!!

Hey what could go wrong? The gals are all very excited and determined to go. One uttered the words "draft depth" the other day so I think they've actually been reading the book. ;-) The trip is from Apr 10 to 22, so I'll report back then! Rick

Keep us informed on BVI trip.

It seems the BVI's are a popular spot for Alberta sailors. I have friends there right now for 2 weeks and I am chartering for 7 days next January. I hope to have some girls along too. I have to convince the admiral that this is not considered an ocean crossing first. Good luck to Rick and his crew and Go Oilers Go!

Nice to hear from you both! Alberta Ken - Go Flames Go! Manitoba Ken - My mother's family is Icelandic from the Gimli/Riverton area. I spent the winter of '66/67 there. More recently, a few years ago I was at Gull Harbour on Hecla Island. Looks like a nice place to sail for a week or so. A bit of a trailer haul for my boat (Hunter 23.5 water-ballast). Ever sail that area of Lake Winnipeg? I'll keep an eye out for your cat. I'll be on a Sunsail Oceanis (Beneteau) 423. My flight on the 10th takes me through Dallas and San Juan (where we'll be from 18:40 to 20:15), arriving Beef Island at 20:58. Are you anywhere nearby? We're spending Thursday night at the Lambert Beach Resort and Friday night on board in the Sunsail (RoadTown) marina.

Rick we leave Winnipeg on the 8th get in late that night, have the 9th to get sorted out and get on the boat on the 10th to 20th. Not sure what hotel we are at, the other couple is looking after that. We finish the sailing year up at Helca, every September,been there the last 5 years, usually spend 5 days sailing around the islands, we have been taking 3 sail boats and 6 guys, already have a waiting list of crew for this September.

So, you're out on the water a day before I am, but maybe we'll meet up since the distances are not great. If you hear somebody hailing on the radio, "Manitoba, Manitoba, Manitoba, this is ...", that will be me! Could you send me an email to "how" at timshel do.t ca?
