Not sure about vinyl

John: I am not sure about the cloudy look in vinyl windows but for the fixed and opening ports I have used 210. Also Novus is suppose to be very good. I personally keep my dodger windows clean with Clear Horizons from IG. Just a squirt and terry towel keep them looking like new. Novus and 210 are available from Tap Plastics www.tapplastics.com

210

I use 210, also. It waxes, but also renews the oil in the vinyl. It's in an aerosol spray can and sells at Boater's World. I use it for waxing (Use water ONLY with a VERY soft cloth to remove the dirt, first). Then I use the 210 in and out. If your clouding doesn't go away or is mottled and brown, then you may have a fungus/bacteria that permeates the vinyl. That's when replacement is mecessary.

Plasticizer exudation

Initial cloudiness is due to plasticer exudation. Do NOT use acetone or anything nasty like that and try to avoid gritty remedies. As the situation gets worse and the surface color goes to yellow to brown you are also getting oxidative breakdown of the vinyl (as on fender tops etc). If you go to the Gelcoat and Plastics forum and "online instruction book. The problems of clear vinyl adn lexan and how to fix are dealt with. The only alternative is lots of work with VERY FINE grit polishes (Meguirs etc), although I hav eto say I haven't used "210" . I did hear from someone recently of cloudiness caused by 303 fabric protectant. ALW

210 abrasive

The 210 that I used was a creamy liquid with abrasives. It will turn a cloudy port clear and bright. My concern is that it may be a little too abrasive on the soft vinyl windows. On the other hand if you cannot see out of them, what have you got to loose?

The 210 I have...

...is a non-abrasive aerosol. Works great and doesn't leave scratches. Cheers, Bob

vinyl/ isenglass

Am I mixing materials when I refer to clear/flexible windows in dodgers and enclosures as isenglass and not vinyl?

210 types?

The picture in the link supplied by Steve shows a squeeze bottle. It looks like the same labelling as the spray can. But the spray is not abrasive. It actually goes on like a spray wax. Note: I have been warned about using Pledge It removes some of the oil properties of the vinyl and makes it more susceptiple to scratches. That's why I stick with 210.

3M products

West Marine sells a 2 part system made by 3M that we have been pleased with. It is specifically for clear plastic windows.

"Plexus" plastic polish

It was developed for the aviation industry. I buy it at motorcycle shops, never saw it in a marine store. Great stuff, fills small scratches, polishes, and protects from uv's
