Vinfalle?

Hi Chris:

Though I can't help you with the name Vinvalle, I noticed your boat's #
is 265.
I own 275 for over 26 years, have over 46.000 miles under her keel, and I
love that boat.

Hi Chris.
Congratulations with your "new" Vega.
Thus I'm Danish, I'll give my best shot on the name of your boat.
Vinf?lle (Vinfalle) could be Swedish and meaning "Catch the Wind" or "Windcatcher"
It also could be meaning "Share the Wine" *LOL* - I sure hope you will share a bottle of wine with your new friend - and give her a new name ;-)
Danish and Swedish languages are very similar, but perhaps a Swedish Vegatarian can help you.
Are you familar with the procedure of renaming a boat ?
A very important part of the renaming procedure is that the boat have to be sailed on ground - before renaming !!
I can post the exact procedure if anyone wants it.

Basically it means Windfall (or wind-trap if you like) in Swedish...
Sounds sensible to give a Vega a Swedish name, every Vega should have a
blond first mate (f) as well

Chris. Congradulations on the new old boat. Fixing the delamination isn't
particularly hard but it is time consuming. This is a good time of the year
to be doing it though. The deck is cored with foam. If it was plywood you
would have to deal with rot and that would be nasty. Tap on the decks. If it
is delaminating you will notice a softer sound than if it isn't. We had
major delamination. What we did was drill small holes every couple of inches
where we had delamination. Before we drilled though we painted the decks
with flat black latex. The paint allowed the decks to heat up in the sun and
the holes allowed the moisture to evaporate out. After a couple of days of
heating we used syringes to inject epoxy into the holes. Do you know any
nurses? If so ask them for some used but clean 10 or 20cc syringes. If you
ask for little syringes they'll think you're going to use them for drugs and
you won't get them. Ask for bigger ones, explain the reason and offer them a
sail afterwards and you probably will. Most syringes today have an internal
thread for screwing on the needle. You don't need the needle and the
threaded part is going to get in the way so cut it off with a razor knife.
(syringes are great for mixing small amounts of epoxy also) Now get a lot of
small wooden dowels slightly bigger than the hole you drilled. The holes
should de just big enough for the tip of the syringe to fit snuggly into it.
Taper the dowels with an electric pencil sharpener and cut the taper part
off. What you want to end up with are many little tapered plugs about 1/2"
long. Mix some epoxy, fill the syringe and inject it into a hole. The epoxy
will start coming out of the surrounding holes. As it does plug the holes
with the pieces of dowel. Tap the plugs lightly with a hammer to seat them.
(This job goes better with two people.) After the epoxy has set take a wood
chisel and cut the dowels off flush with the deck. Sorry but you aren't done
yet. You now have end grain wood sticking straight up and if any water gets
to it it could find it's way into the deck. So get yout drill out and select
a drill bit slightly larger than your origional. Counter sink each plug and
seal it with a drop of epoxy. Sand the drop flat with the deck after it has
cured. Use Jabsco paintbrush cleaner to remove the black latex. It comes off
easily, and be sure to use gloves. Lyric didn't have molded in non skid when
I got her. This job is obviously going to more difficult if you have molded

P.S. Check the weather first. I grew up on the Cheasapeke and as I recall
you can get some nasty thunderstorms at this time of the year. Obviously you
don't want hundreds of little hole in your deck if the weather forecast
calls for rain!

Hi Hielke
I have a blond first mate aboard Puffin (formally
Monkey)
She's a real keeper too!
The Monkey was the topic of conversation a few months
back.
I looked her over and bought her for $3,250.00
and we sailed her back to North Carolina from
Washington DC took us 2 weeks and we came to realise
what a great boat design the Vega is.
We love her.
I am in the process of re-doing her interior and wll
take Photos when finished.
I nave managed to locate another MD6A engine and will
pick it up in the fall.
So far it has been a labor of love for me amd my first
mate.
A little costly but this being my third boat I'm used
to it.
