I'm going to get my nephew a video game system for his birthday and I got to thinking if any of the game platforms -Ninetendo, Playstation, XBox etc... have any sailing simulators made for them. I might as well get one that I can play with too!! Anybody know?

sailing games

I did a search and only found one all other were actual sailing board games, books, puzzles, model kits and such. There has to be more out there. http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/547669.asp we used to have a sailboat racing simulated game here on the computer. If we still have it on here and I can upload it and email it to you, I will. Hubby is out in the Gulf bringing boat home so it won't be until after this weekend. No promises. But will try. If you find any in the mean time , please list it! B/Seadance

There must be something!

All these video games and software out there- there must be something!! There are so many flying and race cars, you would think there would be at least one sail race game or skill game!

They had an article about an America's Cup game. www.virtualskipper-game.com I think it's only available for PCs. Screenshots look good. Almost downloaded the demo but it's 238MB!!! Yeouch!

Haven't found one yet Jack

Jack, I'm a PS2 geek and I've been looking for something like this for years. There are a half dozen PC games, but no console games yet. My understanding is that it takes about 15,000 units to break even on a new game - I suspect that's the limiter (although maybe we can convince Activision that we can find 14,998 others to buy? :) ) Dave Crowley Wind Dreamer II

Hard to believe!

Well you gotta know there are a lot more than 15,000 sailors out there! If someone wants to write the program, I'll fund it!

I wish I remembered how to code. :)

Jack, You're right, there are a ton of sailors out there. Unfortunately, there are not a ton of sailors in the target demographic for video games (13-24). Granted, there's a secondary market in the 36-44 year range, but still. I have been so frustrated in not having any console game it's not funny. Heck, I'd buy any console if they had a sailing game. And can you imagine having it on the Wii (interactive gaming!) We'd be hanging off the end of the couch, heeling on a Hobie Cat! :) Dave

I have one...

...at home on floppy(it's old) but it allowed you to tack and trim sails hoist spinnaker and sail against a OD fleet. It was pretty good and I used to play it quite a bit. Haven't used it in a number of years now. I'll have to find a way to load it on my current computer, it doesn't have a floppy drive.

I found software on the internet that was a great simulator that allowed you to choose your boat and sailing grounds but never acted on it and I went looking a while ago but got distracted but I'm sure its still out there

sailing simulators....

I have never seen or heard of one for the console platforms. There are a number of them available for the PC. VirtualSkipper looks to be the most promising. What would be cool would be a sailboat racing game patterned after the grand prix sailing circuit in Australia. but with the quality of the great playstation car racing game Gran Turismo 4. I'd definitely buy that.
