Can someone post the link to the video clip of the Vegas racing. The one

post.

Thanks

Goodmorning Vega sailors,

The original movie is on the following adres:
http://www.albinvega.eu/ in the video departement.
Chuck I don't have a problem if you would publish the movie on your
website because I just made it to promote our vegas.

Hi Jan and all.

Maybe *one* reef in the main? :)

To be serious, I haven't done a lot of yacht racing but isn't it better
to keep the boat as nearly upright as possible which means reefing -
broaching like in the video clip slows the boat down a lot?

And Vegas need a reef in the main earlier than other 27-footers..

Comments?

John

Hello John,

Normally we would have reefed the main. But the wind increased
during the race. If you reef during the race it will cost you a
couple of meters. The race normally has downwind rakes and upwind
rake. Downwind is not the problem. I was lucky to be on the start
and finish boat with a video, at that time.
I think that somewhere between 20 and 25 degrees is a good heel for
speed with a Vega. But that is just my opinion.

Regards Jan.

Hi All

They say (The Vega Gods!) that 20 degrees heel is ideal otherwise you
start going sideways. I remember in the 1998 IFR held in The Medway
where I was the only boat to reef on the third race. The other Vegas
were faster but went sideways and in Up-Channel racing it really
mattered, Still had water coming over the cockpit gunwhales now and then
but we managed to win!! Even ended up the 1998 champuion but that is
another story.......

Cheers

Hi Lori!

There are also some great clips (ranging from 1:50-5:45 mins) on YouTube. I cannot access it from my office here, but would be glad to send you that link when I get home this evening. Some beautiful scenes of the Vega sailing on the Baltic. You can simply Google "Albin Vega Videos" and it should send you there. The gentleman's screen name is "Albin Vega". Very well done by Griffen Productions....I highly recommend them...(they have carried me through this snow and ice this winter!) Grin

Unortunately, Youtube is off limits for me at the office (Blocked by
our security software) and I only have a wireless connection, and not
a very good one, at the boat.

If anyone has video they's like to share, I've been thinking of
putting a video page on the AVA site. I just need material. I'm
allowed to work on that after hours at the office to take advantage
of the high speed connection and the very powerful computer.
