I have purchase this victron battery monitor and I have a question on the installation ....
the instructions are clear, but i dont want to screw this up...

I have 2 eight D batterys .(battery 1 and battery 2) and these instructions show how clear the installation is.

but these 2 eight D batterys are controlled by a selector that has 3 selections....battery 1....battery 2...and ALL...(and of course off)

does this change my installation........

You will need to lose the #2 position of you want to treat those batteries as "house" and combine them into one contiguous bank.....

Not for accurate battery monitor sensing... When you turn OFF the power which bank gets the bilge pump? Stereo memory? etc. etc... There are far too many ways for the Ah counter to get out of whack when the banks are wired through a 1/2/BOTH but use as "one bank". If they are both used as house then they should be wired as such....

I use the same monitor to monitor my two banks that are both always on. But I rearranged the ground legs so that everything went though the shunt first. It works just fine.

Don, I'm confused. Two batteries wired together are not two separate banks if they are always connected.

IF you leave the switch set to ON 24/7/365 it will work. Most folks want to turn the switch to OFF when they leave the boat and this will lead to counting inaccuracies....

all the grounds are common, the positive feeds the main DC panel though individual breakers, so if both are shut the banks are in parallel (or if the inverter supply is in both as that also combines them)

one must know how their boat is wired, lots of ways to skin a cat or wire a boat

and I leave them on all the time as that is how the solar charges both as the breaker is on the main DC panel

Couldn't agree more!

Thanks, sounds like one big bank to me.
