Victorian Battery Monitor Blown Fuse

This spring I installed a Victron Battery Monitor. For a couple of months it worked well.

A couple of days ago it stopped working. The problem was a blown fuse on the positive feed for the Vic Battery Monitor.

Aside from the obvious, too much current passing through the fuse, what might have caused the fuse to blow? It was installed per the instructions, with one minor exception. the positive was connected to the battery bank at a busbar not the battery terminal.

Any idea on what conditions might have caused the fuse to blow?

I have never liked the fuse & holder that come with the Victron as I have found them a bit "buggy".. I usually replace them with an ATC in-line fuse holder..

That's what I did. It was faster than looking for a new 1000mA fuse. Replaced it with a 2 A ATC. Hopefully, there will be no more incidents.

could it have possible gotten wet? My Victron got wet from ac condensate, under unusual circumstances. It gave false readings for about 3 months. suddenly it started working properly again.

After surveying the result of years of small wires and little in-line fuses fighting for room at our battery Pos. terminals, this spring I changed to a new Blue Seas terminal block connection scheme.
This cleaned up the mess a lot (!) and puts the fuses very close to the post. We have small wires going to the original analog meter, an older AH meter, and a new Balmar Smartgauge.

First, autocorrect nailed me again. It's Victron Battery Monitor not Victorian Battery Monitor. :banghead:

Gaylord, The fuse and monitor are well protected from moisture, so that wasn't the issue.

FastOlson, The DC system has been upgraded. Most leads are on a bus bar with each lead fused. The positive battery post has 4 connections, the parallel wire, a battery terminal fuse holder, and 2 small sensing wires for the Victron and Balmar SmartGuage.

MaineSail suggests that the problem maybe related to the fuse and holder. I'm going with that theory as I can find no other reason for blowing the fuse, save for some kind of power surge (?) or a problem with the Victron guage itself. If it blows again, I will look to Victron for warranty relief.

Make your own fuse holder. I used 2 Spade lug connectors some black tape and then inserted a fuse and take it again to keep the spacing correct.
