I am feeling vibrations from below when I am under sail on my new 2006 Hunter 27, what are some reasons for this? Is this normal? Loose rudder? Is something bent? (I have hit anything) The yard that I have my boat in is almost useless soI am trying to learn to troubleshoot these problems on my own. Any thoughts?

Vibrations

It could be you prop freewheeling. Try putting it in reverse and see if the vibration stops.

Prop freewheeling

Is that normal or does that require maintenance? Thanks for your help!!

We had a vibration

a couple weeks after getting our boat serviced in the yard. Dove to look and found that the zinc on the end of the prop shaft was loose - turns out the yard forgot to put a lock washer on the bolt! When we first felt the vibration, I put the shift lever in reverse and it stopped. That at least localized the problem to the propellor shaft. We let our prop free-wheel, but I'm not sure if that is best. Any expert opinions out there? Bob s/v X SAIL R 8

No dont let your prop turn

just ask the manufacturer Put a yanmar in reverse when you shut it down to keep from wearing out he transmission bearing! no oil pressuer no lube on hurth and yanmar transmissions.

Prop in reverse

I have a 2005 Hunter 27 and it when I kill the engine I leave the transmission in foward. I am not sure if it really matters. If you look at the Hunter Yacht website pics of the H-27 you will see it in foward. Fairwinds, Jorge

I put it in reverse and it seems to have done the trick. Thanks for all of your help!!

If there is vibration felt when the prop shaft is freewheeling, does that indicate that the shaft needs to be alighned ?
