Has anyone had to install the vhf antenna thru the cabin top? I am going to be doing this on wed. night, I cannot get the wire thru the hole in the cabin top where all the wires for the mast come up...so it looks like I will be drilling. Whould one location be better than another, i noticed that inside there seems to be a space around were the head liner is, is it hollow? or should i bypass it and put the vhf a little more forward of the headliner? ANY helpful thoughts would be great!!!

Hand to Mast

Drew, unless you are running coax cable to the mast head fly, then don't bother. These repeaters that the USCG has will pick up a hand-held VHF easily. If you are going cruising, and ten miles from shore, then put the antenna at the mast top absolutely. If cruising around shore, harbors, a bay then a good hand-held with power cord, and extra batteries will work fine. ICOM is the USCG kind, and that's what I carry on deliveries...;-)
