Interesting Mike... In amateur radio this is caused because of the threshold set on the WHAM wireless transmitter. In other words, when a signal breaks squelch, it should then be transmitted to the WHAM. On my set, I can hear the first syllable on the base speaker, then I hear all but that first syllable on the WHAM. I have contacted Uniden a couple times about this, and they did not deny the problem, nor offer a solution, such as an adjustment in the WHAM transmitter.

Like I said, I have learned to live with it. I tell my radio buddies to count to 1 between PTT and speaking, and that works. I also turn up the volume of the base station so that I can hear the first syllable from below.

Just a thought.

Could it be that I just have my squelch set too high? Doubt it, but will play with that this coming season.

Ken, having had it for 7 years I can tell you it worked the same as the base unit. No syllables omitted or other issues with transmitting or receiving. I kept the squelch on the base unit set just a tad past where you would normally leave it. Turn it up until you cut the garbage, then just a tad more.
