I recently installed a Standard Horizon GX500s VHF Radio and the companion Ram Mike at the helm the base station works fine but the problem is with the ram mike and only on channel 16 there is a very loud hum when I try to transmit on channel 16 it is so loud that that it completely drowns out my transmission to other boats I can switch to any other working channel and the reception is loud and clear. anyone have any idea as to what the problem might be or a solution?

Thanks much,
Capt. Ron

The other party use to hear whistling tone when I tx from my Icom with Remote mike. Problem traced to antenna and cable. Yours may not be same fault but don't limit your troubleshooting search.

Sounds like an RF feedback loop which can be caused by a poor RF ground, resonant length of coax at the Ch16 freq or resonant length of mic cable.
How far away is antenna? Have you checked all connections?

Check the instructions. If it calls for those little donut things on the cables put them on. they prevent RF energy from traveling down the outside of the coax.
