You must have a Dwyer Damco Mast if you have external halyards, so that shouldn't be a problem. If you replaced the wire going to the steaming light, you must have another duplex that is feeding the anchor light. This is the wire that you need to tie a tag line to, so you can pull it out the top of the mast. I didn't have to drill any holes for my coax, but then again, we have different make masts. Just leave enough wire at each end of the mast to make your connections. For my windex; I use a stainless steel wing nut to hold it to my extension bracket. I keep the windex in the cabin while the boat is on the trailer en route to the ramp.External halyards and a steaming light halfway up the mast on my 222. I just replaced the wire to the light this past weekend with no real issues except there was a knot tied in the duplex so it wouldn't come through the hole easily. I'll have to take a look at the mast this weekend and see what would be involved with sending a wire all the way up to the top. I'm sure I could use an electrician's tape, but I will have to drill a couple of holes.
Nope. No anchor light, but I was thinking about adding one. Or at least wiring my white lights separately from my bow lightsYou must have a Dwyer Damco Mast if you have external halyards, so that shouldn't be a problem. Ohhhhhhhh! That's really strange. It has a steaming light but no anchor light. I wonder if the PO did that? To tell you the truth, I don't even use my anchor light. I can only remember having to use it once, but I figure that it's on my mast and it should work. So I fixed it a couple of weeks ago. I removed my steaming light along with the wire. Just for the heck of it, check the top of your mast about 2" down from the top, and see if you have two rivets that are in line with the mast about an inch apart. If you do, you probably have a small strap inside your mast that an electric duplex wire can go through. Having the wire go through this strap and stretched out inside your mast with the other end of the same wire exiting a hole in the side of the mast, will keep the wire from flopping around in the mast. ( So it says here in small print.)Nope. No anchor light, but I was thinking about adding one. Or at least wiring my white lights separately from my bow lights
I also have the 1984 222 and I dont have a anchor light either.Just checked and there definitely wasn't an anchor light. No place for a wire to exit the mast at the top. I'm thinking I can probably skip the anchor light and just use my steaming and stern lights for anchor lights as infrequently as I'll use them. I may go ahead and run an extra wire up to the mast in case I change my mind.
That's amazing Peter. I thought that they all had anchor lights. To tell you the truth guys, I don't even use my anchor light. I know that someone will probably want to jump my bones for saying that, but these boats can float in a large puddle. Some of the places where I anchor every week are so shallow and off the beaten path that no body in his right mind is going come flying in there at pitch black night and hit my boat. If you want an anchor light and feel that you should have one for emergencies, you could probably Mickey Mouse something with a long cord and send it up your mast on a pig stick. Years ago I installed a cheek block on the Starboard side of my mast near the top, along with a cleat above the area of the goose neck. I have a 6' flag stick with our YC triangular pendant attached to it. I could very easily attach a light to this stick and hoist it up the mast. A light could also be hung on a back stay. There are all kinds of possibilities. I sail and anchor in Narragansett Bay quite a bit, and I never use an anchor light. I've thought about hanging a solar light on my stern pulpit and they aren't CG approved, but who cares. Someone will probably jump on me for saying that, I know.I also have the 1984 222 and I dont have a anchor light either.
Joe, I bought a davis Mega light for when I go over to the Vineyard. Even when i anchor in close at Vineyard haven you some times have people come crusing through. All I do is plug it in And attach to my maine Halyard. It is nice because it is light sensitive so if goe on shore and it is dark when I get back it is on.That's amazing Peter. Thanks for the suggestions, dog. I'm putting hull-liner over most of the wiring so it needs to be fairly flush. Everything they have looks like it might be for zip ties only. I'll have to use something similar for the rear bilge area where there won't be any liner. Also, I'll need a few for plumbing
