This thread reminds me of Sir Winston Churchill's statement after the Battle of Briton: Never have so many owed so much to so few! When I was a kid almost every man I knew was a vet. When I joined the AF most of my sergeants were WW11 or Korean war vets. Today most of the young men and women I meet have never considered uniformed service.

Yup, I had a 20 year break in service. I joined the ARNG as a weekend soldier and was able to return to active duty as a recruiter. I was very lucky to be able to retire.

Re: "In Flanders Field, the poppies blow..."

Thanks Peggie,
We all had to learn that in school when I was a kid but I never knew the genesis.

Stroh, did we pass each other at Korat? I was there 74/75 assigned 388 OMS. With your SAC history I'm guessing you were with the FB-111's?.

Thanks Peggy

Was involved in SEA as USAF Rescue Helciopter pilot starting in 1962 thru 1966. Had a great carreer as USAF Pilot, fixed wing & helcopter, from 1960 to 1981. Loved the part where we taught Army heli piltos to fly on instruments and they taught us how to fly sideways down rivers.

There is really no way to thanks every veteran for their service to our country. These people have sacraficed for our freedoms.

Hopefully the current group of active troops will be home and safe in the very near future.

There is also a group that is often forgotten. These are the troops that have been injured while on duty. Many of these folks will have to try to make it through the rest of their lives with all types of disabilities.

So my hat is off to each and everyone that has served to protect us.

There is an increasingly popular way to handle large favors. YOU pay it forward. Make sure that you vote in every election and use your voice to get others out to vote.

We had town elections here last week and less than 25 per cent of the eligible voters turned out. That can result in minority rule NOT majority rule.
It your elected officials are going to represent you in decisions concerning the way your tax dollars are spent make sure they are the ones you chose.
The veterans have made it possible for people to be free. The people must exercise and preserve that freedom. Don't squander it with apathy. Obey the laws, pay your taxes, don't pollute, don't waste our resources.
