My boat, in its slip, was hit today by Vessel Assist. The Dock Master notified my by email that Vessel Assist, while removing a boat from the marina, hit my outboard. She said there appears to be no damage. I trust her, but will head down tomorrow and check it out. Wonder if I can get a new boat out of this. LOL Just kidding.

Did you ask her exactly where she hit your boat, at what angle, and at what speed?

Is it STILL an "OUTboard" ?

I don't have any details, yet. I am sure it was a very low speed tap but it is not always speed, but weight, that hurts. I'll know more tomorrow.

At least someone told you. I suspect many times we are left to discover damage at the wrong time. Example: I found a lifeline stanchion broken while heading out for several weeks. I was walking forward, grabbed the lifeline and it pulled inward with almost no force. Clearly it had been bumped. I have no idea when or who.

On our last boat I had noticed that a power boat at some point, had backed into our transom and put a horizontal slice in our rudder from the outdrives hydrofoil. I was standing on the dock behind our boat and could see it under the water. Never did fix it and ended up selling the boat like that.

I know what you mean @Ken Cross. I discovered red paint on my stern one day, and the only red boat was parked next to mine. I did not see beige paint on his boat so I could not esquire if he hit my boat. So I left it at that. No 'real' damage, but just this gnawing feeling that I was sure he did it.

Trouble with Gnawing Feelings, they keep chewing on you. Confront it like a Marine, or ignore it as chaff not worth your time... Gosh this coffee this morning is good. See I have forgotten what we were discussing all ready.
I can see Brian donning his smokey and going into DI mode. The guy would probably change slips!

Just came back from the marina. The Dock Master whitness the event. She said the Vessel Assist boat drifted into my outboard and push my boat forward in my slip. I do keep my dock lines a little on the loose side so the boat has 'breathing' room. I have seen some boats with super taunt dock lines. Anyway...

She sent an email to Vessel Assist (BoatUS maybe?) complaining that the skipper of the tow boat did not notify the marina of the incident. We both agreed that this was akin to a car door bumping the next car over with no damage. But the correct thing to do is to at least notify someone.

So it is all good.

As for the red paint, the Dock Master assured me that the red boat next to me was not the culprit. She said it has not moved in a LONG time. The owner has cancer and has not been to the marina. So glad I did not go DI. LOL

Kudos to Del Mar Marina in the Boat Basin of Camp Pendleton!:beer:

I share a slip (side by side) with another boat perpendicular to a river with up to 2 kts current. Years ago I bought a second set of fenders for that side as it is easy for the other boat to drift into me. Was a good investment.

If the work boat drifted into yours and in good faith the driver was sure it did no damage, I would not expect the driver to leave a note. This leaves him and the company wide open to all sorts of false claims (not implying in any way that Brian would do that!) from an unscrupulous owner who wanted to get some 'work' done.

True, but if he contacted the manager of the marina and had someone verify that there was no damage then he could be honest and covered.

Could be. But in fact there is no damage, but then he's gotta take 30-60 of WORK time to have someone come down and confirm. I'd say give the guy a break. No harm no foul.
