Vertical split in tiller

Greetings. Couple of years ago I bought a new tiller. Nice curved laminate version. This weekend it split right between layers from stern forward about 6-8 inches right up to the bend. Also right in line with the two screw holes where it was attached to the bracket and thus the rudder. Soooo . . I'm thinking I'll open up the crack gently, add some good waterproff wood glue, clamp to death. Then fill the screw/mounting holes with epoxy (needed to change position anyway), sand down the area around the bracket so I can glass the whole end. Redrill and put it back on. Missing anything?Mike

That sounds like a plan

That's what I had to do to my tiller last year. Only, I used epoxy to glue it back. I accidently dropped it on the ground and it opened up between the laminates. It's as good as new now.Joe
