I sail a Hunter 306 and have inmast furling. I love it, but miss the roach of a conventional mailsail. I am considering a vertical batten mainsail to replace the main that came with the boat. Both Hood and Doyle make one. Does anyone have any experience a vertical batten main and inmast furling.

vertical batten mainsail

Rob, I've had a vertical batten mainsail made by Doyle for about a year and really enjoy it. It has improved light air sailing dramatically, so that we motorsail much less than previously. It improves sail shape and increases sail area to a significant degree. Reefing is just as simple as with the hollow-cut leech of our OEM mainsail. The size of the exit slot of the mast is important, but is more than adequate on most newer rigs. Fair winds, Chris Webb

Chris, do B&R rigs lend them selves to vertical

battons? Hell, do they work with in-mast furling. I haven't noticed, one way or another.

Heard good things about the Doyle Swingbatten

In fact I'm planning on ordering one for my HUnter 356. Check it out

Doyle swingbatten

we've had a swingbatten on our 356 for a year now and it works really well-the added power makes a huge difference in light air performance and it's reefed shape is vastly better than the stock sail. well worth it!

Question??? *yks

I am just curious, if you had to lower the sail in a hurry and in the middle of a blow, how do you deal with the vertical battens? Same question for hoisting it back?
