We just got home from Verizon with a new Droid Thunderbolt phone and my wife is playing now checking out everything.
It's $30.00 a month unlimited data and wifi and hot spots,no tethering needed it's all included for how long the free tethering/wifi is going to be ??????.

You will like the ability to use the hotspot on your boat. It will be a good thing and it is easier to stay in touch and communicate.

The first time I saw a storm in the distance and I got on the net to check out the course of the storm I realized just how useful a tool that this can be!

Driodx

We have been using a DiodX for the last few months from Verizon. I believe it has the largest "smart phone "screen with excellent signal pick up and hundreds of apps. Last weekend I watched the SF Gaints play in Arizona whille floating on the hook in Long Island sound for 30 bucks a month ...hard to beat...cheers Frank

we slow

We are both slow learners when using our computers and this new phone set up all our tasks and this smartphone has endless apps which will take time to learn.
The Verzion store does have free classes tto learn how to use it but we are leaving for 2 weeks so we will be on our own for now.
We will hopefully keep intouch here on our cruise up to Sarasota and tampa.

Rotten weather here last night but it looks better for the weekend. Hope your new Thunderbolt(Yikes!! nice phone) works out well. Now if there was just an app for keeping foul weather at bay.

Of all our apps we love to stream Pandora radio set to the genre of our choice. The function I dislike the most is the phone interruptions that pull me back to civilization. Note to self, remember to mute that ringer;)

Give Virgin Mobile a lool

I just got a Virgin Mobile air card for the laptop. Costs 80 bucks at ,Wally World. Their unlimited plan is 50 bucks, but I looked at usage, and gonna get by with a 20 dollar a month deal. For 20 you can do a bunch of email, and a fair amount of browsing. Good enough for my usage. They use the Sprint network, so pretty good coverage. Sprint even sells the air card.

my sprint card does well. the unlimited data transfer service plan has been discontinued--is now month to month for me-- but is still cheaper than any data transfer counting plan.

BoatUS magazine just had an article on Apps for smart phones. They spoke of several cool apps for smart phones (Droid and iPhone).
