venture cat 15

i recently purchased a venture cat 15 that needs the "coupling" (is this called a gooseneck?) that attaches the boom to the mast. the part i have is broken and appears it was juryrigged from the original part. two questions:
1) how is this attachment supposed to bbe done? any photos?
2) any possibility of a spare part?

Gooseneck

I believe it is called a gooseneck. The easiest way to buy replacement parts is to determine who made your mast, either from a tag on the mast or boom or from manufacturers literature. You can then measure the mast and discover which section it is. Parts can be obtained from the manufacturers website. www.rigrite.com is a place to start, some others are Ballengers Spars, US Spars, or just do a search for "spars". The most difficult way is to measure the old part and use the dimensions eg pin hole sizes, length, width, height, material, that plus a picture sent to Ballengers or Rig Rite should work. I'm sure that the rigging shop at your local boat yard could help you out as well, but that's pricey too.

I second Rigrite. The original Venture spars were built by Kenyon I think and I believe Rigrite owns the original designs. Some goosenecks are attached directly to the mast with rivets or screws. On my old V17 the gooseneck was permanently attached to the boom and had a sail slide attached to it so that it loaded into the mast the same way as the mainsail. There was a downhaul attached to it to keep it below the gate but I always used a track locking slug above the gooseneck and below the gate just in case.

The folks are rig-rite are generally about as helpful as a sackful of wet kittens, so make sure you know exactly what you want when you order it. They are miserable with telephone and email correspondence unless you have a part number in hand and are talking to the sales department.
