I,m a new owner of a C30 and am picky about boat odor and mold. The climate here is very warm and the boats stay in the water 24/7 all year. So I am looking for advice on what works best for ventilation and mold For instance power vents ( solar or not), dorades, dehumifiers, etc. I would appreciate any and all advice. Nick Fketcher

...only one power vent (Nicro Vent) for 14 seasons and very pleased with the performance. Boat is in the water only 6 months of the year and the usually covered in the off season. But odor from anywhere (head, bilge,etc.) is inevitable. Good Luck.

Solar powered vents keep my
Islander 30 sweet and fresh smelling year round. I have three running to the outside and one circulating air through the Vee berth locker. They are all powered by a dedicated 5 watt solar panel and run year round when the sun shines. There are several benefits, the boat is never hotter inside than the outside air temperature. The fans stop at night when the temperature drops and the humidity rises. Each fan is 24 cfm and draws .8 watts and three inches square. They were designed as 12 volt computer cooling fans. Even after being closed up all winter the boat is dry and free of any odors. Damp rid is mostly calcium chloride, the collected water MUST be emptied regularly.if they over flow then you have a clean-up problem because the spill will continue to collect water. If you should choose to use it,place the container in a bucket to catch any over flow spills.

I would search other retailers' prices (Defender, for instance)...I think you'll find the Nicro vents for close to what you paid for 'em. WM's prices have gotten downright ridiculous in the last couple of years, often nearly double mfr's LIST price. For example, a 22-oz bottle of Raritan C.P. has a list price of 11.90...WM's price: $17.95. And I've heard a lot of stories of things as simple as replacement running light lenses being 4-5x what you can buy 'em for almost anywhere else. There are a bunch of marine mail order retailers, almost all of which are cheaper than WM. Unless you like throwing money away, start Googling!

Check with Defender and other on-line sources. WM is to expensive. Here is another set on prices differences: Fram oil filters, WalMart under $4, WM over $7; Starbite Deck Cleaner, WalMart under $5, WM over $14. I recommend only using WM when in a bind.
