Ventilation for reftigeration unit

I recently installed a new Nova Kool refrigeration system in my boat. I noticed the ventilation requirements in the instruction manual. The compressor/condenser unit is mounted in the port lazerette and there is a small hinged door in the bulkhead between the lazerette and the galley. Is this door meant to be open during refrigerator operation? The door is on a spring hinge and needs to be propped to stay open.

Don't know what the door is for, but you can't have too much ventilation. More is always better. Of leave it open or even remove it, maybe put a louver in it's place.

I'm going on the assumption that you managers approximately in the same area that I mounted my.

In cockpit area/seating area there is oval cutout I had a mushroom vent left over from the tank-less water heater that I removed. When I run the refrigeration I opened this mushroom that and it seems to keep the unit cool enough. The longest I have run my refrigeration is for 6 weeks at a time and I had no heating problems. The biggest thing is the insulation but that's another subject. I will include a link to a mushroom vent but you can get them just about anywhere.

I also have a Mark III with the same small door. I assumed that it was for trash, if you put a waste basket in the lazerette near the door, although I never used it.

Oh- so that's what the little flapper door is for. I also wondered what the cutout and bungee did in the cockpit locker. Now I see it's for a trash can. Never too old to learn new things.

Yes, that door was designed for trash removal or trash transfer! The previous owner of my 1988 Mark II cut the door out, widened it and installed a microwave that is recessed so their is plenty of room in front of it on the counter space. Very nice set up.
