I need to replace our vent cover and found that is costs $250. Is it imperative that I get the exact part or would another stock vent cover work?

Most likely. Measure it and then check the WM or Defender catalogs. If they don't have that particular size, at least you'll find out the manufacturers and can get in touch with them for odd sizes. Since it was used on a production boat, I doubt if it would be a one-off size, though. Good luck.
$250??? Have you got a decimal point in the wrong place?
Try an RV supply store. Most of those vent covers are fairly common, and it's not absolutely mandatory to have the exact replacement. screw holes may not line up, but that is not a big issue. The old holes can be filled with marine tex.
