I have a 1984 Catalina 27 and it looks like my vent blower is shot. It is making lots of grinding noises. Can some kind person tell me about what the replacement part for this would be and a resource for buying it.

Thanks for any help given!!!

The aforementioned rats on my boat exited, frantically, through that blower unit, so you can imagine what a mess they made during their departure. Judging from the little black paw prints at the port vent, I'd say they were pretty sooty upon exit, and a lot less hair.

Do you have diesel or regular gas Atomic 4 engine? By 1984 it was pretty rare to find a new Catalina with an A 4 installed. The blower is a relic of the gas engine days of Catalinas. Its not necessary to vent a diesel engine before starting with a fan because diesel fumes will not ingite from a stray spark, etc., their octane rating is too low. Although a working blower will help vent out any other potential problems like propane fumes in the bilge which can ignite, etc., & can help draw out some of the heat & fumes from a hot engine at anchor.
