Does anyone know the condition the Cypress Cove Marina on the Mississippi delta at Venice, Louisiana? I'm planning a trip from Galveston to Tampa and would like to know if Cypress Cove is operational for transients. Thanks in advance, Mark

Venice?

Im not sure, but from the info i received, Venice no longer exists. I remember reading that almost half that parish was reclaimed by the Mississippi River during Katrina. Try calling the Coast Guard to verify. I would hate for you to get bad information on trip that long.

ROSS

Are we talking about the same place? I think you are talking about Slidell, and he is asking about Venice, about 100 miles or more south of there. Please verify and correct me if I'm wrong. I have been wrong before.

Snake your way to Slidell

If you must stop along the way for fuel and supplies, maybe you can snake your way to Slidell, La. Oak Harbor is officially closed, but you can get in there, tie up along the old piers and someone will surely help you get a ride for fuel and supplies. Still several live-aboards toughing it out with generators cause no electricity yet. Its still a gamble that someone can you get you outfitted, but im sure they can. It would always be best if you call the harbormaster first. His name is Mark , unfortunately, I dont have his Tel Number, but if you get on website jojamela.us you will get it there and possibly much more info by contacting the owners of the site...Mike and Bianca. If you make it to slidell, then you can coastal cruise the ICW and put in at Biloxi, which is also officially closed but people are squatting there. In a few months, I will be doing the reverse trip.....Clearwater to Kemah. Good luck.

Venice marina near Tiger Pass

Hey--thanks for the replies. Just to clarify, I'm interested in the Venice marina out on the delta near Tiger Pass and the Mississippi. The link from Ross did connect to the right marina (thanks!) but I have already tried to contact them by email and so far nothing. The USCG updates still are indicating a lot of missing markers/lights for the approach up Tiger Pass so I assume the approach would be up Southwest Pass. I'd prefer to stay offshore the entire trip from Galveston to Tampa but I just wanted to have a possible place to run to if a cold front comes down faster than expected.

Nice N Easy

Fuel etc.

I don't think there is anything left down in the Delta. You could sneak in to Slidell as Tony B said. I'm not sure about any of the markers on the river being in place and reliable. Easiest way would be to come in at Gulfport/Biloxi, and then head back west towards Slidell, There is also a pretty good anchorage at Cat Island, unless you have a s'west wind. The "Dock" in Slidell at the entrance to Oak Harbor is now re-opened, and you can get diesel, and even a hamburger and a beer.
