Velux 5 Oceans race photo finish

Velux 5 Oceans Open 60, 5 legs around the world, 3rd leg from Wellington NZ, thru the Southern Ocean, around the Horn and up to Punta del Este, Uruguay, just completed.

Brad Van Liew, US, finished in 23 days 17 hrs.
2nd Zbigniew Gutkowski ( Poland) and 3rd Chris Stanmore-Major ( England) finished 40 seconds apart in 25 days 19 hrs.
Derek Hatfield ( Canada) finished 1 hour behind them.

They went 6,700 nm and then 40 seconds apart, even to finish within an hour is amazing esp. for 3 boats..

Nah.... two days behind the winner......they probably planned a rendevous a hundred miles offshore to set up a sprint to the line (with a smaller wager to make it more interesting)... heh, heh.

I once did a point to point race on the Chessy Bay that took over 4 hours and we finished 20 seconds ahead of our competitor, and I thought that was amazing!

Is there video coverage of this race? I went to there site but did not see it during my 28 second attention span.

25 days across the southern ocean might be challenging. To put it in perspective Derek Hatfield said when they were in the Southern Ocean they would be further away from land than the space shuttle in orbit.

They have photos, audio and video reports from the skippers on board during the race and videos of the racers coming in to port, but not the kind of coverage you'd see in the Americas Cup, close to shore and lots of media helicopters and boats.
