In case anyone's interested in the status of this possible comedic
tragedy.

I called BoatUS tow center about cost of towing (USD$800.00). Ouch!
I asked the tow Capt. about divers that work in the Deale, Md area.
He said that none of the marinas in this area will allow divers, or
major hull cleaning while in slip (it's part of the slip contract).
Bummer! So I started to think about possible scenarios where I motor
out of the slip and find some quiet corner of the creek to do some
scraping. However, while chatting with him, I asked if he knew of any
outboard rental places. He said he had a Merc 9.9 hp, that he uses
for misc. that he would rent me for USD$50.00 a day. He also said
that with the Merc I shouldn't need to worry about cleaning the hull
first. He said I should be able to move the boat the 32 nmi in a day.
Since he is a towboat capt, I'm going to ASSUME he knows what he's
talking about. So the current plan is to rent the Merc and move the
boat as is. Radio has been bought and inflatable tender is on order.
Move is scheduled for 5/25-5/27. Pictures and boat details will be
available then.

replace the tiller before moving the boat.. shouldn't cost much....and the
last thing you want is no steering while under full power from the
outboard.... good luck

I think the wood tiller is in ok shape, it is the metal bracket
holding it, that is the problem. I will get more details next week.
I am not sure how generic that part is, or if I can find a replacement
quickly before my trip.

all the left over parts (starter, exhaust manifold,
alternator bracket, etc, etc) from my MD7A are on sale
on Ebay.

which will have all the parts/groups listed.

Not asking much for the parts...just wanted to get
them out there where they can be used by somebody.

Best Regards,

Who? I have never heard of a US Department of Natural Resources - this sounds like a state agency.
A work around I did with my Vega was to take the paperwork to the American Embassy and get a certicate of American Ownership. That worked while in Europe.
Best wishes,

Rollyn,
Here in the US, some states have a Department of Natural Resources, or DNR, that handles boat registration for that state. This agency may be named different in some states, but doing a google search for "Department of Natural Resources" comes back with sites from many states. It is a federal requirement that the boat be either documented or registered in the state of principle use. I did not mean to imply that DNR was a federal agency, since as you say, it is a state agency. I put "US" in the sentence to indicate that I'm going through "the bureaucracy" chain in the US. Sorry if I was unclear.

I have never documented a boat, so I don't know if that would be easier/quicker than going through the state registration process. I guess while I'm waiting, I'll do some research into it.

Thanks,
Chris

You will have to stretch the truth a little as you have to show that the Vega displaces 2.5 tons or so. Then again, you might find it easier to sell this Vega & buy one in Holland.
Best wishes,
