Does anyone know if Henry Gustafsson is still in business in Sweden,
selling Vega parts through the company listed above? I tried email
address from a couple of years ago and it came back unsent. Tried
the established fax number and it was apparently dead.
Any information appreciated.

Thanks John Sprague for asking this question:

I have a 1968 Vega that I have been working on for the last 5 years.
Just today I took it to the shop to have it sprayed with 2 part
polyurethane. So now I can think about actually putting the boat
back together. The boat is totally gutted except for the basic
furniture and the yanmar single cylinder diesel. I need lots of
parts. I was hoping that Vegan Marin would be available for some
parts? Does anybody know if Vega Marin is still in business?

Thanks

Hi David:

I have a VEGA too!!!who is into rebuilding. I'm interested in the
performance of the Yanmar in yur boat. Is it a 1 GM, what size of prop.
do you run? I have vega 1070 and I'm thinking about putting this motor in
it. Do you have any advise? Also I could rebuild a BMW D-12 for
repowering, any thoughts?

Thanks swietzer@...

Walther Nerving and others,
A few weeks ago I asked whether Vega Marin AB was still in business
in Sweden. Walther you confirmed that it was still there.

Attempts at email were not successful, apparently that was because
they have changed their address. The new one is
vega.marin@... They also have a web site at vegamarin.se
but did not have their catalogue there when I looked.

Trying to order from them, I tried fax 011 46 31-29 2949 on a couple
of days but it did not go through for reasons unknown. Finally it
went through in early November, the quotation came back by fax a few
days later, I confirmed the order on Nov. 6, and the parcel of
goodies arrived at the local post office on Nov. 30.

Henry Gustafsson runs the company. He included 23 pages of catalogue
of parts for Vegas. Everything from Albin gas engine parts and combi
parts to zinc anodes for the back of the prop shaft. If anyone is
interested in particular items, let me know and I could fax or mail
appropriate pages. The catalogue appears to be similar material to
that published by Sid Rosen in the newsletter two years ago.

Thanks for the generous on the Albin catalogue, John. I wonder how many of
us are trying to keep the gas engines going. I'm resisting the outboard
option. Had one on my last boat and it was OK almost all of the time.
Docking against a strong tide / river current with a dying wind under sail
alone has me motivated to get some additional power.

Albin also has a web site Albin Motor .
Click on 'English' then 'spare parts' or go directly to

A feature on the site is the parts diagrams and listings with expanded
drawings for the O21 and O22's. Guessing it the same catalogue that Albin
Marin sent out.

For some reason I could not download the whole catalogue even with Acrobat
Reader but was able to view and print the individual pages which will be
helpul when I attempt to repair my O21's distributor and rebuild the carb.

James Villa,
Yes, my fax to them was in english. Henry Gustafsson who runs it,
speaks english not badly. It is a mistake to telephone and Henry
once requested orders by fax.
Credit cards work, at least VISA does.
With the order, they send you a little catalogue. Also a page on how
to make a Vega go in reverse under power. It is written in classic
Swenglish and I read it 3 times and still did not have the slightest
idea what it meant.

They do not show bow chocks or running lights in the catalogue, but
you might ask. I looked in an old 1985 catalogue and they did not
have them then, either. Maybe the chap in England has them.

The mooring bollard is shown. They claim the "bolt" is stainless
steel. There are some options and maybe someone else understands or
has a Swedish dictionary. I think the bollard is listed separately
from the support. Catalogue gives Swedish then English names:
Pollare/Mooring Bollard
Teakpollare med rostfri bult
Teakbollard with stainless bolt
3580 Pollare/bollard 30 mm
3581 Pollare/bollard 40 mm
3585 P-knape 10 mm
3586 P-knape 12 mm

Good luck figuring that out, but I would guess the P-knape is the
stainless support or "bolt". Anyone know?

Here is a story about Henry. In 1985 I bought a bunch of stuff
including a sprayhood (dodger). The metal frame was too long for
ordinary shipping and would have cost a fortune so I said don't
bother, just send the canvas. I had paid the full price so said I
would order something else someday to make up the difference. A
couple of years later I was in Sweden on business. I phoned Henry
and asked (in English) if there was a way to get the frame. He sent
it, no charge, by bus to Stockholm and it was there next morning. I
carted it back on the plane okay.

Hi John: I am indebted to you for all of this information and the great story about Henry. I look forward to doing business with him. With your permission, I will say he comes highly recommended by one of the skippers of our "on-line Vega fleet". Perhaps a nice new replating job done on the visible portion of those mooring bollards is the sensible first choice for me. I bet the OEM's are beautiful but would be very expensive. An inquiry of Henry could not hurt however, and he sounds very helpful. If I could get my Vega to go in reverse under power, that would be something...........Thanks again........ Very best wishes... Hello all,
Yes, Vega Marin closed the store in Sweden but as I understand it
they are keeping the Vega parts in a couple of shipping containers,
and continue to sell what they have. It is not clear to me why
everybody seems to be so negative.

I checked with them in May of last year and got the following message
by fax.
"We are still in business but we have closed our store. You can
order from info@... or fax.
With regards, Vega Marin AB.
Henry Gustafsson, Inger Sundstrom."

As mentioned last week, fax contact is described in messages no. 2334
and 1342 of this egroups site.

Sounds like there might be a business opportunity there if the logistics could be worked out. Out of the question for me of course but perhaps someone.........

Aloha,
