melanie & paul,glad to know of another vega in ME. i may have met paul years ago, someone gave me a copy of some instructions about taking apart the transmission on volvo penta, and an address for sid rosen i think, the guy who ran the vega new letter until he died - he died before i could ever sign up for that news letter... my vega penelpoe, vega # 2133 is in my cousin's yard on frenchman bay. we have spent some time & $ "renovating" my vega, new beta marine engine ( there are various parts of the volvo in my garage - the shaft & prop went to
pollard, the guy from va who write on the web site & knows so much about engines) new wiring, head & holding tank system, thru-hulls... lots. the cousin found a sail & canvas place in rockland. we will sail there to have a new dodger fitted some time this summer. a new mainsail is being made up by a sail making group an old school friend works with in FL and we've fitted a roller furling jib system, & found an almost new roller furling jib, which works beautifully. we'll run the halyards back into the cockpit. i intend to sail south this fall, god, health, & family willing. if youre ever this side of mt desert, please drop by sorrento harbor, we have two visitor moorings with a spectacular view of mt desert...
