Hi all,
I officially took possession of Vega 813 "Mr. Perfect" on Feb 17th. I have now spent my first week as a liveaboard in the Shelter Island Marina on the South arm of the Fraser River. It was a long, seven and a half hour trip out of Point Roberts. While thousands packed downtown Vancouver to watch the eventful hockey game between the US and Canada, I was out on the strait of Georgia.
It was my first trip on my first Vega, which is my very first boat. I arrived in darkness but managed it safely enough. It is a sound boat with a new mast in 2004 among other improvements. Now the fun begins making the boat comfortable for my new life aboard. It's amazing how quickly priorities change after even the first night. I have much to learn and even more to do...but that's what it's all about isn't it!
BTW: I purchased the 3gs iphone a week before and downloaded the inavx app for $50.00 and all the charts I need for an additional $10.00. if anyone does go this route, you will need to buy a juice pack (mophi)to extend the battery life (doubles it). The 3gs has "true" gps and I'm told that there is a patch for the older 3g model to make it so.
I hope I can somehow make it to the Rendezvous. It may be tricky since I had already chosen my holiday time before the date was set.
PS. I may be changing the boat's name in the near future.
