VC17 Migration

During the spring washing and waxing process I have noticed areas along the water line where the VC17 has migrated into the white waterline stripe. The areas most affected are spots where the lines holding down the winter cover have rubbed and transferred the bottom paint to the gelcoat above the waterline. I have tried everything I can think of, except abrasives, to remove these stains, without success. Are there any ideas out there?

Once the boat is launched, I forget about this, but right now, it gets my attention as it is at eye level.

Not sure how VC 17 migrates. But, if you say so. If the copper is being rubbed from under neath the waterline to above, then it can be cleaned with VC175 which is the thinner for that product. If you have a stain from the water that is not from VC17 and you are not recognizing it properly, then I would use Zing, or some other hull cleaner that aggressively takes water stains away from hull.s

Have you tried a clean rag soaked with Isopropyl alcohol? Keep turning the rag so that you don't spread the copper over other areas. It sounds like the chafing of your tiedown lines just rubbed paint from the bottom and deposited it on the gelcoat. Hopefully, it isn't burnished in.
