We are trying to figure out how to remodel our vberth to make it comfortable for both of us. Our Catalina is the dinette style. The head is located between the vberth and dinette and we are willing to give up some of the head space to get a better night's sleep! Has anyone run across this problem? Done something about it? We would be greatful for any remodelling tips before we start our spring project. Please email to polaris@junction.net Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

My thoughts....

...the v-berth is somewhat comfortable for 1 adult or two kids, but not two adults. (but, you already know that). The reality is that there is no master suite. Before you start a major re-model, try sleeping together on the dinette bunk. I use it all the time, it converts quickly, is easier to change bedding, and much easier to climb in and out. If you have kids, or a guest, put them up forward and enjoy the spaciousness of the main salon. If you insist on cutting up the boat, I suspect a combination drop-leaf, cut-out arrangement on the head side bulkhead might give you some more head/leg room. I'd leave the locker side intact. I also highly suggest you not cut up the existing bulkheads, but save them in case you decide your modifications were a mistake and you want to go back to the original plan. Good luck, I'd be interested in what you came up with.

I had the same problem

I solved it by going to a catalina 30. Being 6'2" there was no way I could get in the V berth.

don't cut the bulkheads. my wife and i use the cockpit cushions on the salon floor and sleep very well. the curve of the floor actually is perfect for sleeping.
