hello,

recently added a high output alternator and I had a problem with the belt not being tight enough. I also recently noticed that its considerably thinner in only 1 spot. Its an actual v instead of the u shape.

could this be an alignment issue?

thanks
Jared

A single V-belt is good for about 50 amps output. Go over that and you need to have two belts or a serpentine belt. So given that you have a new high output and the old low output belt setup I'm thinking you need to reprogram your regulator to de-rate the alternator. The good news is you will not be burning out the alternator . I'll bet there is lots of belt dust on the engine.

Thanks Bill

I'm thinking I need to de-tune it also. I'll try it at 50 with a new belt and see how that goes.

and yes, its made a mess of my engine compartment. Ive wasted many towels cleaning it up
