OK my wood is needing attention including the flooring inside the saloon. What will work the best on he outside and how about using urethane on the floor? I would like it to look nice but I don't really want to spend a lifetime getting it done. Thanks.

Good spar varnish for the interior & cetol for ext

Willy: I would suggest a good quality spar varnish for the interior. I would suggest a mat/hand rubbed effect finish. It does not show every blemish like a gloss finish does. You can listen to everyone that pipes in on this, but you cannot beat Cetol for the exterior. If you use the light or clear it will last for many months in the SF bay area (without the "orange" look. The big advantage is that you can use a single touch-up coat every 5-6 months with only a little rough up and you are ready to go again. Regardless of what you decide to use consider using Sunbrella covers to protect the wood when you are using the boat. This will add many months to the finish.

Ditto Ultimate Sole for the flooring....

For varnish, *spar* varnish is soft and flexible (so it doesnt crack when the SPAR flexes) but 'dings' very easily easily. If you know of an oldfashioned 'paint' store where the proprietor is older than God consider to have 'the ancient one' MAKE you some BARTOP varnish for your interior - its HARD, it wont ding so easily, etc. BARTOP varnish's usual form is full gloss, so if you want semi-gloss or satin finish, then you will need to hand rub with rottenstone or fine pumice once it 'cures'. BARTOP is somewhat difficult to apply and usually needs some handrubbing after cured, even if you want gloss. Wetsanding with 1000 grit ---> 2000 grit, then powerbuffing with 3M Perfect-it compound with produce a dazzling finish.
