I am in the process of varnishing the woodwork on my oday and was wondering if it would be wise to go ahead and do the removable floor planks as well. Anybody done theres?

I posted a pic of what they look like, they are not bad but could use a little sanding and varnishing.

If you think that it would look better then why not. As you stated I would sand a little to get rid of any surfaces contaminates and apply thin coats until you get the depth and luster you’re looking for.

There are tons of topics on this subject. Here's one: http://c34.org/bbs/index.php/topic,6932.0.html

Point being is that you should be careful choosing the right material, 'cuz if your varnish is "soft" then you might make matters worse after all that work.

We used Min-Wax, four coats, looks just fine.

On my 34 I did the floor boards with Cetol. After removing all the previous coatings and sanding very smooth, I applied 2 coats of Cetol Marine, followed by 3 Coats of Cetol Gloss. This was all done indoors, in a warm place. By following the directions you will have beautiful floors for many years with very little maintenance . Oday's have nonslip gelcoat areas so do not be concerned about them being too slick.

My preference is Epifanes rubbed effect varnish. Apply two or three coats of any good varnish. I used Minwax since it's much less expensive and UV is not an issue inside. Sand between each coat with a palm sander using medium grit on the first coats and then fine for the following coats. Last coat use Ephanes Rubbed effect. It will look spectacular.
Note : Do not use multiple coats of rubbed effect. It is intended for the final low gloss effect. It' tough as nails.
I have seen gloss varnish finishes that look as good but it was done be a pro and many many many coats. Every flaw speck of lint must be sanded out or it will show. Not so with the rubbed effect.
