Hello Fellow Hunter Owners, I reciently purchased a 1978 Hunter 30, and while it was a one owner boat it was used as a storage shed tied up to their dock for several years and was filthy. As I cleaned it out and started investigating my new water front condo, I noticed a valve in the port side storage locker in the V-Birth. Does anyone know what this is used for? There is also a pump lever which I think is used to pump out the waste holding tank? Additinally there is some sort of round module attached to the hull under the bathroom (head) sink cabinet with some wires coming out of it. Any idea what this might be? Thank you to anyone who can assist with these mini mysteries. Tom (Wavedaddy)

size of thru-hull

If it is 1/2 or 3/4 inch or there about, the thru-hull is intake. If it is 1.5 inch, then it is overboard discharge of the holding tank - not to be used in most inland water at all and only in coastal areas if you are more than 3 miles off shore (9 miles in certain parts of Florida). This needs to be closed and locked - there are various ways to achieve "locked" in the eyes of the coast guard. Sanitary rule violations can be expensive. Check the literature, see Peggy's book in the store here - or her forum over "head mistress." Does the boat a have a main pressure water system, or does it have an electric-pump faucet at the head sink? Take a close look and and see if there are any markings. The strange device could be any number of things. (Is it a pump for a water-cooled airconditioner? a seawater or fresh water pump? what is it connected to?)

Thanks for the information Debra.

Thanks for your reply Debra, I'll continue my investigation but the more I think about it, and after I read many articles about this boat, it may be a drainage for the waste water tank. I'll be cautious about the Florida laws. I'm still not sure about the strange device under the sink. There is a old fathometer on the boat, this may be the sensor for it. While there is a pressurized water system, I found the pump for this in another area already. I have only owned the boat for a month, and have been doing alot of cleaning and bright work. There is so much teak on this boat....I just love it. I'm having the Yanmar worked on this Tuesday, perhaps the mechanic will know somthing more about the boat. Then, the boat comes out of the water on the 14th to have the bottom done and all water tanks and plumbing replaced. Thanks agin for your information. Wavedaddy (Tom)
