For valve clearance adjustment on Yanmar 2GMF20: 1. which is cylinder 1 and which is 2? 2. what is the best way to turn the crankshaft? 3. after adjusting valves clearance on cylinder 1 at TDC mark, you need to turn the crankshaft 180 degrees to adjust cylinder 2. What is the indication you got there? Thanks

You can rotate the engine by hand with a wrench on the alternator pulley nut. With the valve cover removed, rotate the engine and watch the two valves in one cylinder moving together. One valve will be opening while the other is closing at the same time. this is the bottom of the piston stroke for that cylinder and the top(TDC) of the other. Adjust the two valves that did not move. then rotate the engine and do the reverse.
