Owner's manual reads "adjust valves 500 hours. I just hit first 500 hours.
Friend of mine has Kabuta tractor and he said dealer told him don't need to adjust valves unless
not really running right? Should we adjust at 500 for preventative maintenance?
Appreciate any thoughts.

Yes.. Check at 500 hours..
Dealer is not being forthright.. By the time an engine doesn't run correctly on account of valve maladjustment, you've already burned a valve or messed up a valve seat.. it takes only 30 minutes or so to check.. then you are sure.. if it needs adjustment, then you've avoided a real problem..

This is the tool to check with.. Amazon.com: Lisle 68150 Go-No-Go Feeler Gauge: Automotive
Easiest to use if you are inexperienced with feeler gauges.. These have a leaf that is milled to say .005" on the open end and .007" a little ways up the leaf.. If the .005" end fits under the rocker arm at the valve, and the .007" part won't as you slide it, then the valve is very close to .006"
The technique to adjust is in the engine manual that Stu has on the site..
