V2926

I found a bit more about the Vega I'm interested in. She's "Overture"
sail number V2926 in Clearlake,Texas and in desperate need of TLC.
She's only been out once or twice in the last five years and who
knows before that. So far nothing that a little time and elbow grease
won't fix. I'm still trying to determine which year she was made and
get the engine running. Can anyone tell me which engine should be
installed from the sail number? As best as I can tell it's a Volvo
Penta, 2 cylinder, which makes it a MD 6 or 7a. The engine has been
moved forward into the cabin by about 6 to 8 inches, which makes me
think it might have been replaced. Going to to look for the hull
number on the transom this weeekend.

You can tell the year it was made by the Hull Identification Number (HIN)
The last 4 digits represent the month and year.

Paul,I have Vega here in Miami I wish to sell. Say, $6K obo. She's a good old boat with a great Yanmar 2GM20F. We bought her about 18 mos ago, had one great W/E outing. Then, back at the mooring found some tears in the mainsail luff. I took it off and taped them. She's just been sitting in the water ever since, an occasional swim/tan platform.Anyway, she's all there and together, a good sound boat. I have a two-year-old in-water buyer's survey @ $7K + (ie "well worth the asking price of..."). Major needs: 1) Mainsail: functional, but old, taped and starting to rot. 2) Wiring panel, the wiring seems OK but the panel is old, exposed and a bit ragged. The other sails are good, jib and jenny. The mast step below has been done, very strongly with aluminum fore and aft. Hull, decks, and rigging are sound. She needs some TLC, mostly just clean-up, brightwork and either paint or wax - and bottom paint, of course. Also, some of the usual fixes, like maybe Steve's polyunsaturated alyoomineeum windows! Let me know...--markPS If she's not quite what you are looking for, there are two Vegas listed in the "Sailboat Trader" here in South Florida. One at $7K, I think and one at ~$11K.

Hi Paul,
Just noticed how close our two sail numbers are,
yours 2926, ours 2931 & also located in Clear Lake Tx.
Our engine is an MD6B although I can't seem to find
any reference to a 'B' vs the 'A' model.
BTW... we had R.E. Summers (At Watergate) do the
inspection March '02 and they valued it at $11.5K so a
little clean up and TLC would make that well worth the
effort. Give me a call and we'll compare notes. A
look-see at our inspection document should give you
some ideas on what to look for.
