I am not sure the boom on our boat is the original or correct boom. Our V25 is a 1975. Does anyone have the boom length and pictures of how the boom is supposed to connect to the mast? This does not seem right and is a pain. Thanks, Jennifer

This is the newer style "gooseneck" from BWY. Yours probably has the bolt through the mast for so the boom can rotate, to reef the main. Get rid of it! And get a main with real reef point(s). Not sure on the length, but I think mine is around 10.5 feet. It should be at least 6" longer than the foot of your main, but could be longer.
You can just see the bracket that keeps the boom from roating in this picture. There is a through bolt in the braket about the center of the boom.
Thanks. When we bought this boat, the PO sold it with a jib and main. When we got it home, we found a storm jib and 135% Jenny. No main. The boom is about 9' 6", a foot shorter than it should be. I could only find one used main with a 9' foot, from a Sea Quest 26. I do have the bolt through type with the U shape like THECUSCUS on the mast, but the boom has the same size U. There is no arm with set screw like the picture at BWY GOOSENECK, ROLLER BOOM MAST ASSY. That looks like the one in TimeBandits pic. In order to make ours work, the boom U has to fit over the upper and lower lips of the mast U with a clevis pin plus a 3/4" spacer between. At least now it is starting to make sense. I know the U on the boom pulls out but I do not know if it turns. If it does, and it locks in that position, we can add the tube between. Appreciate your help.

It worked. The bracket in the boom pulled out, turned and locked in position. I bought a 6" long, black steel, threaded pipe for $2.50. Broke out the tools, cut one end off at the end of the threads, took the hand grinder to shape it after drilling the first hole for the mast end. When it was properly shaped and the clevis pin slid in effortlessly, I measure for proper length and made the cut. Next I placed it into the boom end to mark where the final hole should be drilled. When finished I ground the rough edges and bolted the pipe to the boom. One more project down. Next I'll make two winch handles to fit the old V25 winch. I bought 1/2" x 1-3/4" x 48", 6061 aluminum for that project.
One down and ? many more to go.
Just remember this, the boat does not have to be perfect to sail, just safe.
Spend some time sailing and the the things that need to be done will not seem like such a chor.

I have a Mac25... and the gooseneck was missing from my mast... I bought a project boat in an auction for $26... and have been having fun with it ever since... I did find a gooseneck that works great for the mast and boom, and slides up and down... it is a hobie cat gooseneck... it works greats for my boat... t allows me to move the sail up or down, to stretch it, or make it loose, to make adjustments to the height when I reef it.... it is really versatile... it is the gooseneck used for the hobie cat 14 or 16.... it has the attachment for the clew, a ring on the bottom for a hownhaul rope, and a quick release for the boom, and fits the groove of the mast...

Lucky for me the Admiral is tolerates sailing in a perpetual construction zone.
Timebandit, as always you have good advice. I took the boat to Milwaukee harbor last Saturday evening, raised the mast, set up and launched by myself so I could spend the night aboard anchored out. Last time I spent a night like that was 39 years and 12 days earlier. After sailing three months from Nassau, Bahama's to San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was not my boat, but I took interest in learning everything I could. Wonderful memories. When we found this boat two years ago, she was so naked I had to wrap a towel around her to pervent getting arrested for indecent exposure! lol The keel broken off, a major hole in the keel pocket, running rigging and mains'l missing, wiring corroded, etc. I've done all the repairs myself with the exception of some helpful family muscle installing the keel. Thanks God for that! It is true that you don't really know your boat until you work on just about every inch of her. When crew is available, on my days off, we sail. Other days I work on that next project. Everyone here is so helpful. Things are so different from all those years ago before the internet. Now we can receive advise from thousands of miles away! Ours is a 1975, V-25. Just finished building a step and mounted the new traveler I-beam and made a boom Vang, added mid boom bale, finished making a winch handle and installed a 4' Bimini top over the past three days. Also added a block at the base of the mast to run main and jib halliards to the cockpit.
