Good afternoon all. I'm rebuilding a V222 (pop top) and have been thinking about routing all of the control lines to the cockpit. Question is... all of the photos I've seen relating to pop top configured Ventures didn't show this configuration. I've seen several V22s, Novelman's boat for instance, where he has done a nice job of setting everything up for single-handed sailing. I have about 9" of room from the coachroof edge to the poptop. I used a pair of harken 150 camcleats on either side at the rear, turning blocks out in front of the poptop, springloaded blocks at the mast step, no winches on the cabin top, jib downhaul runs outside the lifeline stanchions on the port side, spring loaded block at forestayfor downhaul, sheet bags at the back of the cabin, no boomvang yet but I will probably replace the starboard turning block with a deck organizer. Can't argue with Minney's
I found genoa tracks, cleats, swim ladder, spreaders, etc, not much in the small boat range in cleats and blocks when I was there last, definitely worth a trip. Check out Garhauer, they are local and cheaper than Harken, I have a pair of genoa cars from them. Mauriprosailing is a good internet site, Defender is good, check the chandlery here of course ;D Westmarine will break you but you don't have one in driving distance so thats good

I appreciate everyones input and will check out Minney's next time I'm in the LA area. To answer the questions. We've sailed on OPBs making two trips to Catalina, and Lakes Mead and Mojave. I'm also sailing with Novelman next month to begin learning how the 22 sails and how we should rig our boat. Her working title is "Forever 29" as she was 29 when we picked her up, began the restoration, and my wife Terri is also forever 29. We were able to pick up a 1977 V222 (built in August 76) which hadn't sailed on some time and she had 8-10" of water inside. She is in the second year of restoration and should be back in the water later this year. To date we've completed the following items and I should add that I have a retired friend, who's name is also Steve and a composite expert who is "having fun" with the 222. *Removed everything...including the deck. This was easy, didn't take very long, and has made working on the hull interior much easier. *Added carbon fiber at the chain plates between the hull and liner *Joined the hull and liner with S-cloth making them a single unit *Reinforced the rudder and motor mounts using aluminum honey-comb sandwiched between aluminum. We also added two backing strips where a future swim ladder will go *Ran PVC connecting the V-berth to the port and starboard lockers exiting aft of the liner. This should make future mods/installations easier (e.g, adding a pump or running electrical) *Reinforced the transom with carbon fiber *Installed a 1 1/2' x 3/8" strip with a 1/4"x20 T-nut every 6" at the sheer line facing the hull interior. There are almost 100 T-nuts installed along the sheer and this will make installing future equipment, nets, and fixtures easier *Cut the V-berth opening to 18"x24" for a drop-in storage unit. We plan on using minimal-expanding foam around the unit and should keep the same flotation properties as the foam blocks, which had a lot of air space between them *Reinforce the v-berth with carbon fiber *Repair bunky-board divits *Removed the keel. This was in really good shape and looked like most of the red oxide paint was intact *Wrapped the rudder with Kevlar. Still a work-in-progress and needs a couple more of the epoxy color coats and light sanding in between before done.

I appreciate you photos...as they about 1000 words(;-)... We're probably several months from working on the deck and I'll begin laying out the rigging after the all important hull to deck joint is together. By then I should have sailed with Novelman on several occasions and hopefully with others as well or at least see how others have solved their rigging problems. Steve
