I have an 88 Legend 37.5 and have had a problem with moisture in the v-birth for a long time. I noticed that when I sail on a starboard tack in heavy weather that the mattress would get wet. Also most of the carpet on the sides as well as the top of the cabin had because spotted with what appears to be mold. Over the last few weekends I removed the forward bulk head, side shelves, and all the old carpet. I found one spot were some carpet of it had been caught between the hull and deck when the boat was made and another spot were the hull to deck sealant had a void that allowed water in. Both of these problem spots appeared right above were my mattress gets wet. I was able to loosen about 6 feet of the toe rail and pry open the joint, remove the chunk of carpet and reseal. I think I have fixed that problem. With the forward bulkhead removed I could also see that the anchor locker pan was not sealed and was also allowing moisture to enter the v-birth. A little glass and sealant will take care of that problem. After all of this I then sanded the top and sides to remove all the mold and old carpet rements. Needless to say it was quite a project. My question is now that I have a clean and hopefully dry front cabin does anyone know of any product that I can coat the fiberglass with that would help with any future moisture or mold problem before I reassemble everything? Also, does anyone a recommendation of a marine grade carpet I can redo the interior with? It most be available in at least 8-1/2' rolls. Any install tips won't hurt eather. Thanks in advance, Phil

Don't give up on the old carpet yet
Phil, If you didn't have to destroy the old carpet getting it out, you may be able to make it look good again. I had light grey carpet in my old boat with lots of mildew. I took the pieces and washed them in the washing machine with regular tide detergent and hot water. The carpet came out looking brand new again. That sure saved me a lot of time cutting new carpet, not to mention the money.

Seal the Pan!
On my Legend 37 (1988), the "pan" inside the anchor locker used to leak. That was until I found a hairline crack where the pan sits and meets the inner hull of the top cap. I put sealant along the hairline and all leaking has stopped.
