I have a 1984 Hunter 31. The holding tank area is located in the V-Berth and is missing the holding tank.I cannot find a replacement tank to fit the area. My question is, would Hunter have used the actual boat structure for the holding tank and not installed a seperate removable/replacable tank? The area has three holes cut through the wall into the recessed storage area and they look as if there were once fittings for a holding tank (inlet, outlet and vent). It also appears that a sealed top cover was once installed to cover the area as the water storage tank cover is installed at the aft end of the boat. Thanks, JB

Answer, I think is yes.

I also have an '84 31'. I think that the tank is moded into the fiberglass. I is suspended from the v-berth itself and has a cover that screws into the surface, just like the aft watertank. Hoses run through the starboard bulkheads to the head, pumpout and thru hull. Mine also has a hand pump. I will be interested to see what, if any, suggestions you get for replacement. Good luck.

V-berth shaped tanks are available

I doubt that the "well" was the tank itself...that's ok for water tanks, but the odor control issues make well with a top screwed onto the top a highly undesirable sewage holding arrangement. However, stranger things have been done on boats, and the only way to be sure is to ask Hunter. Even if it is, I wouldn't recommend continuing to use it that way...I'd put a tank in it. We offer molded plastic tanks in over 100 non-rectangular shapes, including bow-shaped. If one of those won't fit, we're now able to get welded plastic tanks from one of our suppliers...which means we can now fit ANY space. Give me a call on Monday if you'd like to pursue it. 770-512-0075
