My v-beth hatch is in need of replacement and I was wondering if anyone has had good luck purchasing and doing this. O'Day 272LE. Thanx Len

Lenny, You're talking about replacing the forward hatch I'm assuming. One of the guys in my club replaced his on his O'Day 26. I think he bought it off Rudy Nickerson of D&R Marine. It's a Bomar I think. The hatches on the O'Days were the pits. I have one on my 222 that is almost terminal. I've had it off at least three times and fixed it. I almost bought a new hatch off Defender Marine. I paid for it but wound up bringing it back and got my money refunded a couple of weeks later. To make a long story short, the new hatch was just a shade smaller than the opening and I didn't want to Mickey Mouse it to make it fit. Also, the new hatch didn't come with an inside flange. This is another problem that you may run up against. A friend of mine ran up against the same problem with his Pearson Ariel and he solved the problem by building a frame out of white Oak to fit under the hatch. He's a cabinet maker by trade, so mickey Mousing is his specialty and it always comes out looking like a professional job. Anyway, I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to do about my hatch. I've fixed it many times and even replaced the lens on it back in the late 1980s. The hatch is nothing but plastic junk and the company went out of business years ago, I think. Good luck! Joe
