I am going to sew on a UV strip myself for my 150% Genoa which has already undergone some UV damage on the leach and foot. You can see the stiching has disolved in some places and the material is bleached out yet still appears to be strong. Several people have been telling me different things. The resident expert said because of my leach damage, I should wrap the UV material around the leach and foot and stich it just behind the leach pocket on the non-sun side of the sail (this will also allow me to keep the same leach line). Do you agree with this technique? They also said I have to make the UV strip from 60" UV fabric (stayaway from sunbrella) because they don't make a continuous strip of fabric 12" wide. Is this true? UV Sun Cover

Allen, When we install Sunbrella covers we do a 1 1/4" double fold that wraps aroud the leech of the sail. I recommend that you do it this way. Most Sunbrella colors are available in 46" as well as 60" wide rolls. If we are using UV Dacron we install the strip on the leech and then "table" the leech(enclosing the leechline) with a 3" 5oz. UV Dacron tape. Thanks, Bill Colombo Doyle Sailmakers
