UV strip repair

Hey all, so last sail trip I noticed the radar and spreaders have now worn a slit in the UV protection, its not flapping yet but will soon. I took sail down and to a sail repair but was quoted $7-800 for full UV repair. This is a 1600 Neil Pryde special so I'm hesitant to throw that much into it given the actual problem areas are maybe a foot or two. I could sew on patches in those specific areas too but that was about $350 so still up there.

I read about self adhesive UV insignia cloth and I think I have some of the tape for repair but never used it, I'll give it a try but I see the cloth is bigger something I think would be better. Anyone tried repairing a UV cover tear with it and had success? Also where would one get this? I've seen source online but maybe there's someone with a good experience.

Cheers!

The sacrificial strip could be temporarily patched with sail repair tape, but the remainder of the strip is undoubtedly sun rotted. Even though my boat is only in the water about four months annually, I had the sacrificial material replaced after 7 seasons. The material on the original Pryde jib was really quite light weight by design. The sailmaker I used to repair it recommended a slightly heavier grade of material.

The cost to have the foot and leech material stripped off and replaced back then was over $500.00. The repair was done during the winter, and that resulted in a slight discount.
