does anyone know if the Hunter 260 comes w/ a UV protection strip on the jib? Just wondering.. we know the sun can do way too much damage to the sails and can't imagine having a sail w/out it but don't know for sure.. please let me know.. thanks Joyce

No bands

I own a 2000 Hunter 270 and the roller furling jib does not come with U.V. bands. In fact, I've just added them to my headsail because I want to avoid any potential UV damage.

UV

When I purchased my H240 with a CDI furler the dealer contacted the sail loft to have this taken care of. This should be part of the purchase and commissioning price. I can't imagine a dealer ordering a boat with a furler and not having this process done. Give the dealer a call.

UV

The sail mfg. is using a better material normally found in sail cloth which is treated to be resistant to UV rays. The ones so far that I have installed on the boats coming from Hunter are holding up. Time will only tell. If you are concerned and want that protection, send your sail off requesteing a sunbrella trim on the sail. Thanks for the imput Sean and by the way, we did not see your boat thism morning when I arrived at the shop. When are you going to bring it. Sail time is around the corner. Crazy dave Condon

UV protected sail mat'l

I have the CDI roller furler and my 240 came with UV protected sail cloth. Sounds very skeptical, but it was reason enough for my dealer to not push having the sunbrella strip sewn on. I trailer and keep it under a lean-to, so my case is not the test of whether this works long term.

UV sail mat'l (cont'd)

pushed the wrong button and it submitted on me! I was going to finish by saying that the road scum and bird scum is making my jib an ugly 2-tone, so I was considering getting the trim just to protect against these elements and improve aesthetics to boot. Can anyone recommend having the sail shop put the enhanced extrusion (foam) in to make it more of an airfoil shape when reefed? If so, recommend any off the shelf maker/model? Thanks brian

Jib Cover

I mounted a block about 18 inches above my forstay for use with a cruising spiniker. When I'm not sailing, I use this halard to raise an external sunbrella cover which zips over the entire length of my jib. This protects the jib, looks good and keeps the extra weight off of my headsail. Keith

Add the UV

Joyce, we had Hunter have it added to our R/F jib. They sent it to a sail- maker there in FLA. They did it and shipped it to us direct. About $75 I think. Being where you are, there are probably several sail lofts who can do it nearby. Ask your dealer or make your own arrangements. Bill and Nancy Berg Ay Chihuahua, H260 Albuquerque

Sail Cover the RF

You do indeed need to cover the leech and foot of your jib. I own Doyle Sails NC and can make the addition for you if you need it. You can contact us at doylenc@cs.com or 704-483-6656 www.select-yachts.com Butch Berchem
