USS Sequoia- 4 year refit in Belfast

The USS Sequoia arrived in Belfast yesterday to begin an estimated 4 year refit @ French and Webb. She travelled via barge and was off loaded last evening, quite an impressive sight. she going to have a building put up around her and will be very visible to the public as the restoration goes on.

Saw her in New London - stopped in to get out of the way of that Nor'easter. I wonder who's funding the rebuild? That boat belongs in the Smithsonian as a piece of American history.

Al, a private equity firm is funding it, Equator Capital, here is the site The Equator Collection for more info.

It was quite an event when she arrived in Belfast, high school band and everything! Penbay Pilot article loads of pictures there.

When we moved our cat to Deltaville, the plan was to haul out at the railway there when bottom needed painting.

Then Sequoia occupied it for what, 4 years? Had to go elsewhere.

I hated seeing her wrapped up in plastic, so hope that didn't make things worse.

I'd love to head to Belfast and see parts of the reconstruction. I see a weekend trip coming up...

You're going to spend a day going and a day returning - suggest you plan more time on site. There's a LOT to see in that area.

At least two days, just to justify the driving. More if possible - Belfast, Camden, Rockland, Rockport are each worth at least a day.

This sounds more like a weeks vacation or more.... Might do a three day weekend. Drive up Friday, spend Saturday and half of Sunday and head back.

@nat55 - sorry, I have no idea what HM is.... Couldn't find it in Google. Found H&M but they aren't very close...
