I am thinking of using synthetic teak to redo the cockpit of my First 38 tall mast. Have heard pro's and con's. Any advise from a Beneteau owner who has been there?

My plan too

I have a 375 of the same vintage and was thinking of doing the same thing. Hope somebody has some info, if not you or I will be the Test case.

I have a B361 and just replaced the teak on the sugarscoop/transom last month. The product I had the yard use was Nu-teak. So far, I'm really impressed as to how natural it looks, and it will be maintenance free. The rest of the boat still has the original teak, but I needed to change the teak on the scoop as it was really worn and separating. The cost of repairing it was pretty much the same as replacing it with the Nu-teak.

When I head east next weekend, I'll take a picture and post it.

Luken7,
Would love to see your photos. I'm interested in doing the same to my B361. My factory teak pad on the sugar scoop is starting to release from the fiberglass. It gets water under it and I haven't been able to get it to re-adhere.
Thanks,
Agaliha

photo's of the teak

Here's some photos of the Nuteak on the transom and the current teak on the drop seat. Aft of the boat is embarrassingly dirty but it's spring cleaning this weekend ;-)

The piece of Nuteak was $112, but it's maintenance free. I guess I'l find out how hot to the touch it gets this summer, I don't think it will be that bad, but we'll see.

Re: photo's of the teak

Dear Luken7,
Thanks so much for the photos. It looks great! I don't see how it could be much hotter than the the dark teak. The temperature should be a function of the color, not the material. Plus, on the sugar scoop transom you could always splash a little water on it to cool it down. Thanks again,
Agaliha
