Like most sailors we mainly use the quarter berth in our Ericson 35-3 for storage. But piling duffel bags, cockpit cushions, etc. in there is messy and inefficient. Has anyone developed ideas for modifications to make better use of this space for storage? I don't want to permanently loose the ability to use this as a bed but in the years we've owned this boat no one has ever slept there. Thanks in advance!

This was something I was going to tackle on my boat but now that she is sold it is not necessary.
I was thinking maybe some shelving brackets with removeable shelves but I never worked out the details.
BTW, Cordelia will be in Annapolis by the end of May. Her new owner will be berthing her there.

Have you tried using plastic storage boxes or milk crates to try and help organize what is stowed there.
On another topic recently someone discussed cushions. He asked whether or not they could be made in two halves, connected or not. Sounds like a good idea for making more use of limited storage space.
LOL....A lot of us Catalina 30 owners refer to the quarter berth as the trunk!
Plastic storage bins are nice. I tend to take my cockpit cushions out of the boat for long trips because I don't use them. If it is just me, or myself and one other I just keep my smaller cushions that have the adjustable back. That opens up most of the quarter berth and I will store things in bins, travel bags, or duffel bags.
One cool thing to use is the travel bags that you can push the air out of and compress things. It is great for clothes, etc! The other nice part is it will keep your stuff dry if you get one of those leaks that come out of no where or you get some water in when you forget to close a hatch (I will admit to that because WE ALL have done it).

I wouldn't do any permanent changes that would bastardize the boat. Someday you might want to sell it and the new owners might just like a quarter berth.
I removed the quarter berth cushion in my P23 and use it for sail storage. I added a teak rail along the inside to prevent the sail bags from sliding off into the under cockpit storage area. The cushion can be put back at any later date without issue. You might find some sort of corragated plastic dividers to be handy.

gear nets and rubbermaid snap top storage bins work great---i prefer the gear nets---or hammock if ye oprefers that name--they are made for storage and stowage of goods and such on board and come in a coupla sizes--6' and 4' that i know of....
