I've been benefiting from reading this site for last six months -- OUTSTANDING! This is my first post/question:
On a '79 S2 22 ft sailboat the toe rails have two channels to put chalking the length of the toe rails for the deck seal. Builder put calking just at the bolt holes which pressed out when tightened to about 1.5 inch in diameter seal at each hole. This allowed water to sit in the unfilled channeled areas between the toe rail and deck. When reapplying toe rail should I use butyl tape for these long channels or some other type of chalking and butyl tape aroung just the bolt holes as instructed by Compass Marine? Thanks for your feedback.
