Using a power-of-attorney to transfer registration

Hello, I'm out of the country and a friend has arranged the sale of my boat. I'm going to send him a notarized power-of-attorney rather than shuttle paperwork around. Does anybody on this forum have experience using a power-of-attorney to transfer title with the National Vessel Documentation Center? Or in California? I'm worried that they might have some bureaucratic requirements about what the power-of-attorney needs to say that legal/common sense would not prepare one for. Thanks for your help.

Have the papers faxed to you. Sign them and

fax the signed copies back. They sell jet aircraft this way. Since everybody retains copies, the courts have long since up held the validity of this method.

Good idea...

Thanks for the suggestion, it's a good one. My thinking is that if something comes up that requires my signature, it's more of a hassle to fax/email things around than to just send the one document to begin with. If anybody has any experience using a power of atty in this way, your input would still be appreciated. Thanks again.

Monk, Preparing a good power of attorney

document is more of a hassle than using a fax. The power of attorney document must limit the power and the time frame of the grantee. It will require the signature of witnesses as well as the grantor.

I'm not worried about writing a power

of attorney document that meets legal muster, just running into some strange bureaucratic policy that it needed to be more specific about price or something. I'm just going to go ahead and I'll let you all know how it goes. Happy to hear more comments though.
